We absolutely loved all of the amazing submissions you sent us for our School Lunch Photo Contest! We received so many beautiful photos, each one with a note about what made the meal special, and how it represented the great Farm to School work being done at each school.
It was so hard to pick just one to win the contest–see for yourself as you click through this album below:
At the end of the day, we had to pick one, and it’s a great photo featuring a unique and special meal. Congratulations Monterey Peninsula Unified School District!
This was our special meal prepared for CA Native American Day to celebrate and educate students and staff on the significance of Native Americans to our state and foods and themes central to their culture: Homemade Indian Succotash with Ground Beef, Corn, Tomatoes and Edamame; Corn on the Cob and Akutaq (Eskimo ice cream): a traditional Alaskan concoction made from caribou fat, seal oil, freshly fallen snow or water, fresh berries, and sometimes ground fish! Our version is simply frozen berries whipped with yogurt as we are currently out of seal oil!
Keep up the great work, Monterey Peninsula! We will be sending you your prizes very soon! We were also so impressed by the submissions to this contest, that we’ll be featuring the stories and photos shared by other schools and districts to celebrate the hard, creative work they’re doing on Farm to School. Stay tuned!
