One other exciting aspect of the California Farm to School Network is its partnership with FoodCorps, a fast-growing AmeriCorps program that is taking the nation by storm.
Supported in part by AmeriCorps, FoodCorps works with state partners in 18 states to provide 215 service members to schools and nonprofits. In 2013, CAFF had the honor of being selected as the California Host Site for FoodCorps, in partnership with Life Lab. Our service members serve an 11-month term where they focus on nutrition education, school gardens and local procurement in school cafeterias and other farm to school-related programs.
This is FoodCorps’ fourth year in California. As a result of our partnership, we have deployed 19 amazing and enthusiastic service members at 17 service sites throughout the state for the 2016 – 2017 program year.
Additionally, we also have a FoodCorps fellow who supports service members, acts as a bridge between FoodCorps’ national staff and statewide (CAFF) staff, and supports CAFF’s statewide movement-building, including the California Farm to School Network. You’ll see amazing updates from California FoodCorps service members and our fellow in our blog and newsletter and hear about what they’re up to each month.
