GrowingGreat

GrowingGreat is a nonprofit school garden and nutritional education organization dedicated to inspiring children and adults to adopt healthy eating habits.  GrowingGreat started as a demonstration garden at a single elementary school in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) in 1999 and currently provides school garden and nutrition education to over 8,000 students in 20 public schools in Culver City, Hawthorne, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and Ojai, California.

GrowingGreat utilizes a collaborative approach in schools, homes and communities to implement integrative programs that provide hands-on-learning and affect real and lasting change in health, nutrition and sustainable farming. Classroom nutrition lessons, school gardens and farm-to-school food service program elements combine to educate elementary school children about nutrition and healthy eating. All lessons support California Education Code nutrition requirements and Nutrition Competencies, as well as other state and school district grade level standards.
