The Hickman Community Charter District in Hickman, California serves 1100 students in 3 schools. At Hickman Middle School, fresh fruits purchased from Ripple Riley Thomas (a distributor) are served in the cafeteria. The most commonly purchased items are nectarines, peaches, pears, and apples. The students are participate in the ?Harvest of the Month? program. This program delivers boxes of produce to participating classrooms each month and serves as an introduction for students to fresh and healthy varieties of many fruits and vegetables. The food service director, Teri Jaegel, has also made a commitment to healthy foods throughout the school campus by removing soda vending machines, and selling milk instead.
