Tulare County Farmer in the Dell

The Tulare County Office of Education Nutrition Network has implemented the "Farmer in the Dell" program, which partners local farmers, ranchers, and other agriculture professionals with the school district. Through these connections, students learn to make lifelong healthy choices, gain better understanding of agricultural opportunities in the Central Valley, and increase their knowledge of how food gets from the farm to the table. The farmers and ranchers are chosen based on their practical experience, flare for presentation, and ability to model the best practices of their profession. They show plants, trees and animals straight from the farm, share nourishing nutrition education, savory social studies, cultivated with a measure of mathematics, sprinkling of science and a hint of history.
